Sildenafil

Sildenafil is available under the brand name Viagra, as well as in generic forms. Generic versions of sildenafil are approved by regulatory authorities and contain the same active ingredient as the brand-name medication.

Sildenafil is taken on demand, typically most effective when taken on an empty stomach one hour before sexual activity. The dosage may be adjusted based on individual response and tolerability. The effect may last up to four to five hours after the dose is taken.

Sildenafil has a relatively rapid onset of action (expected to start working within 15-30 minutes after using the sublingual medication) and its effects generally last up to 4 to 6 hours, although individual responses may vary.

Potential Side Effects

Like any medication, sildenafil can have potential side effects. These include: headache, flushing, indigestion, nausea, insomnia, nasal congestion, dizziness, and visual disturbances.

Sildenafil may interact with certain medications, including nitrates, alpha-blockers, and certain antifungal or antibiotic medications. It is important to inform your healthcare provider about all the medications you are taking to avoid potential interactions.

Sildenafil is contraindicated in individuals who are taking sublingual nitroglycerine or other nitrates, alpha blockers or certain antihypertensive medications due to excessive lowering of blood pressure.

Dosing Instructions

Take one tablet 30 minutes to one hour before sexual activity; no more than one per 24 hours.
