Prescription Strength Active Ingredients

  • Minoxidil (active ingredient in Rogaine) has long been shown to promote hair growth especially in the crown area of the scalp and along the top of the head.

  • Finasteride (active ingredient in Propecia) works by inhibiting the enzyme 5-alpha-reductase, which converts testosterone into dihydrotestosterone (DHT).  DHT is a hormone that contributes to size reduction of hair follicles and thinning of hair.  The potential side effects of oral finasteride such as decreased libido, erectile dysfunction, and changes in ejaculation are exceedingly rare with the topical treatment given the minimal absorption of this compound.

  • Latanoprost: Latanoprost’s potential hair growth effects are believed to be related to its ability to stimulate hair follicles. The exact mechanism is not fully understood, but it may involve prolonging the anagen (growth) phase of the hair follicles and increasing the thickness of individual hair strands.

  • Ketoconazole: Ketoconazole is effective in treating fungal infections of the scalp, such as dandruff and seborrheic dermatitis. These conditions can contribute to hair loss and scalp discomfort. By eliminating the underlying fungal infection, ketoconazole can help improve scalp health.  Some research suggests that ketoconazole may have the additional benefit of reducing dihydrotestosterone (DHT) levels on the scalp. DHT is a hormone associated with male and female pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia). Lowering DHT levels can potentially slow down hair loss in individuals with this condition.

Instructions

Instructions: Apply 2 sprays to the scalp twice per day, or 4 sprays once per day to achieve optimal results. Do not use more than 4 sprays per day.

Potential side effects

Topical application may cause redness, itching, and irritation of the scalp.  Given the limited absorption of the medicine into the bloodstream, the side effects from the ingredients in this medicine are rare.
